Garden reception

The IW&FS Toronto Branch hosted a summer garden reception in a truly resplendent garden that only a truly dedicated horticulturalist could envisage. Phil Russel (one’L’) is such a person and we were lucky to share the fruits of his labours. A heart felt thanks goes out to the Russels for this event and o Phil for allowing us to trample all over his perfect grass.

The IW&FS Toronto is proud to share this find with you our members.

A successful President’s Garden Reception was the first event of the IW&FS year.  Our President as usual outdid herself in charm and true Canadian hospitality.  The weather even coopered and the rain held off.  A fine mix of guests and members turned up for this event and some new members originally from Edmonton joined in.

A splendiferous array of hovering hors d’oeuvres were presented with a vast selection of one off bottles of wine from the IW&FS Cellar.  A fine time of was had by all.  I thought the warmed fresh figs delicately wrapped in exquisite Prosciutto was the winner, but then, I have editorial power.

The Sommelier Award of the year was presented to Sarah Goddard, a simply charming serious young lady, who has give up a successful teaching career to
become this year's top graduate in the Sommelier Qualifying Course at the The Canadian Association of Professional Sommeliers (CAPS).  The awards were given by Bill Whiteacre, as President of The International Wine and Food Foundation of Canada, who presented Sarah with a framed Scholarship Certificate and the Foundation's medal.  Doug Colbourne, as Treasurers of The International Wine and Food Foundation of Canada, presented Sarah with the Foundation's Scholarship Cheque.
