Cheese
Can you choose a good cheddar? Do you know how terroir affects cheese?
A spectacular evening of exploration of cheese under the guidance of noted lecturer Kathy Guidi.
Kathy is Dean and founder of Cheese Education Guild and President of Artisan Cheese Marketing. She is a Maitre Fromager with 35 years in the cheese business.
We explored how to taste cheese, using 10 examples in several cheese categories. This educational evening emphasized Quebec and Ontario Artisan cheeses, contrasting Old World and New World styles. The worlds most pervasive cheese is Gouda and Jarlsberg...believe it or not.
Clearly substantial evening of learning and sampling some of the finest Quebec and Ontario cheeses.
Our venue was the charming Tasting Room of the Fine Wine Reserve.
Fine Wine Reserve is a 5000 sq. ft. high security, climate controlled wine storage facility with a capacity to store 11,000 cases, right downtown. CEO and founder Marc Russell conducted a private tour before our event starts.
Cellar Master David Jarvis provided the perfect match to the food with selected wines from our own cellar. David also by the generosity that is David donated a exceptionally fine MASI 1990 from his own cellar which just so happens to be close by. This treat is unique to the IWFS where a member shares with the group one of their prize possessions for the love of wine. Attendance was sold out with 20 persons.
Kathy, an exceptional speaker of charm whit and singular knowledge talked while we tasted various cheeses.
Kathy is an interesting speaker, I clearly learnt in my plebeian way with an endless stream of question. Surprisingly enough with only a mere tasting of 10 cheeses there was no lack for food, in fact a surfeit!
The facility is amazingly secure....
The IW&FS Toronto event was clearly a success, thanks to Chris Tierney board member ‘par excellence’. Thank you!
