BRYANT & FAYE LOPEZAre traditional argentine tango dancers whose styles derive from the milongas of Bs As. While maintaining the authenticity of traditional tango of the golden age they bring their own interpretation of the current times through feeling and connection which is the most important aspect of their dancing.
They continue to develop themselves through the embrace, the expression of the music, the elegance of their walk and a sense of carrying the tradition, the essence of the culture of traditional argentine tango. Coming from an Argentine folk dance background Bryant is originally from Buenos Aires and has established his argentine tango dance company, Tango Soul, in Canada since 2000. Faye originates from Montreal Quebec and is a professional actor. Bryant & Faye were Finalist at the World Championships held in Buenos Aires in August of 2012 putting them 6th in the World of Argentine Tango. They are the founders of Tango Soul Productions and Canada’s Argentine Tango Congress.

When one thinks of Argentine cuisine, images of carnivorous fare come to mind – hunks of beef thrown on to a grill and devoured with gusto by gauchos. This is a misconception: Argentine cuisine has a vast repertoire of dishes influenced by European, Mediterranean, and Middle Eastern cultures. The IW&FS dinner hosted at The National Club demonstrated that Argentine fare is far from being gridlocked on steak and empanadas.
It was an extraordinary evening, featuring Ontario premieres for fine wines from Rutini, Trumpeter and Cruz Alta. Each was expertly introduced by Sommelier Ariel Menniti, widely regarded as Argentina’s ambassador of wine. The multi- course fare was prepared by the internationally renowned Executive Chef, Natalia Machado.
Members were welcomed with hot empanadas bursting with fragrances of beef, currant and almond, complemented by a glass of Trumpeter Sauvignon Blanc 2013. The wine’s crisp acidity and citrus undertones lingered refreshingly on the palate.
The meal began with a delicate and savoury Panko Crusted Striped Bass Pavé that was exquisitely paired with an elegant lightly oaked Cruz Alta Grand Reserve Chardonnay 2012.
The standout course was undoubtedly the Slow-Braised Alberta Beef Short Ribs with its classic Chimichurri Sauce. It impeccably parried the heavier nature of the beef. The dish was expertly paired with two robust and deliciously plummy malbec-dominated blends, (Cruz Alta Chairmen’s Blend 2011 and Rutini Encuentro Barrel Blend 2009).
The grand finale and pièce de résistance was a luscious and velvety Dulce de Leche Cheesecake that offered just enough sweetness to cap the occasion.
No Argentinian event would be complete without a traditional Tango. We were enthralled with seductive tango performance of husband and wife team Bryant and Faye Lopez of Tango Soul.
By evening’s end the sumptuous wine, food and Tango had worked their magic on us. Viva Argentina!
