As the world is in a social distancing position due to the Covid-19 virus, it is difficult to have wine gatherings to indulge in the noble pleasure of good wine and good friends.
IWFS Toronto hosted our first-ever virtual wine-tasting on Monday, June 8th at 6 PM.
Your Board decided to hop onto the “Zoom” bandwagon to bring you a virtual wine tasting into the comfort and safety of your own home.
As an appreciation of your membership, and to boost everyone’s morale during this daunting period of COVID self-isolation, this event was FREE.

Our new Wine Director, David Beauroy guided us through the wine region of St. Romain, Burgundy as our tastebuds explore Domaine Sarnin-Berrux’s beautiful Rouge.
For each IWFS Toronto Members, who were within reasonable distance, the IWFS Board delivered to your door, during the week of June 4th the following items:
-1 bottle of Sarnin-Berrux St. Romain Rouge 2017, Pinot Noir;
-A selection of French cheeses – 2 oz each of Délice de Bourgogne and Comté cheeses.

As this is a fairly young pinot noir wine (2016) our wine Director David suggests it is served slightly chilled (15-20 minutes in the fridge) and open and decant 15 minutes before our call.
Note the call is scheduled for one hour – 6pm to 7pm.

The tasting started on time, most members were conversant with the use of “ZOOM.US” meetings, others had a little more difficulty, but in the end it all seems to work well.
The call was set up by our Board Member Diana Burke. David Beauroy, IWFS Toronto’s Wine Director addressed the wine, the area, Sarnin-Berrux and the conditions which it should be served.
This being a virtual meeting I am sure some members didn’t get it right, but never admitted to any mistakes. This makes for a perfect event! There were 40 participants from as faraway as Florida.
Thanks to all who participated. It was a novel idea that seemed to work. The wine and cheeses “were as an elegant as woman wafting into a ball room oblivious to her adoration” (Bill Santo).
