Sokol Blosser have been making wine in Oregon since 1971 in the Dundee Hills of Oregon.
The event started in an un-likely venue, the Delta Chelsea Hotel in downtown Toronto. As a family hotel one would not think of grommet food and wine combinations, well, think again! The Chefs of the Delta Chelsea are just itching to show their best, what a meal, in both artistic presentation superb service and real effort. As Chef Gino came out to address the assembled group one could sense his excitement that he carried as he tantalized you with course after course. This excitement was truly carried by the entire crew from IWFS’s Elayne Basset, the Delta Chelsea’s Food and Beverage Manager to young Randy who made sure we were amply supplied. A fantastic job! Thank you!
The food pairings were with the wines of Sokol Blosser who are unique in their approach to blending for a consistent bouquet and flavour over various vintages years. All in an effort to hook the wine lover to their blends and style which is a pleasant light hearted “feminine” flavour and truly different. These wines are commensurate in style with the generosity of spirit that is Oregon and its wine producers. I was impressed!
The vintners were not schooled in a long history and mythology of wine making, and as a result, have produced something truly unique. One of the wines was from seven veritials truly a daunting task when blending for a consistent flavour year after year. After all a wine named “Meditrina” after the Goddess of Wine and Health and being of Pinot Noir, Sytah & Zinfandel could be only velvety and lush.
This IW&FS event has started the year with a bang.
